What Is Thread Lift?

A thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure that uses fine, absorbable PDO (polydioxanone) threads to lift and reposition skin that has begun to sag with age. I deeply regret having treatment here. After excellent HIFU results on my face with a different provider, I booked for my upper arms, attracted by the low price. The session in September was very uncomfortable and I wasn't offered any numbing cream. Since then I've had persistent pain and weakness in my forearms that has affected my daily life - simple tasks like driving a short distance, hoovering or ironing are exhausting. From my own research, nerve irritation seems a likely cause. I was contacted by two members of staff and offered a further treatment to help. I had an appointment booked well in advance but when I arrived after an 80-mile round trip, the premises was shut and no one was there for nearly half an hour. I've since been offered a credit note, but given the circumstances I feel a refund and reimbursement for travel expenses is entirely reasonable. Neither has been forthcoming. I am still dealing with these distressing side effects.

For anyone thinking of booking, here is my honest account. The booking process via WhatsApp was quick and simple. However, the premises were noticeably run-down compared to the previous clinic location. There was no answer on the intercom when I arrived. The practitioner arrived just before opening time without acknowledging she was late, despite my appointment requesting 15 minutes early check-in. The treatment room was cramped. During the initial consultation the practitioner was texting on her phone, which I found very unprofessional. I felt pressured into paying an additional £30 for a booster and the whole consultation felt rushed with no eye contact or genuine welcome. No post-treatment advice was given, unlike my previous visits to Vivo. For a micro-needling session at £129 I expected a far higher standard of service. A real disappointment compared to previous experiences.

A very poor experience. I booked and paid for a HIFU facial treatment that lasted only 20 minutes. Within a few hours I developed a severe migraine that lasted three days - far beyond the mild headache sometimes mentioned as a possible side effect. When I cancelled my subsequent booked sessions, the clinic refused to refund my deposit despite the next appointment being five weeks away. I found this to be very poor practice. I would not return or recommend.

How does a thread lift work?

After cleansing the skin and marking the areas to be lifted, your practitioner applies a local anaesthetic and inserts fine PDO threads a few millimetres beneath the surface using thin needles. The threads are gently drawn upwards and secured to form a supportive scaffold that repositions sagging tissue. As they dissolve over the following weeks, they stimulate your skin's own collagen and elastin, so the lift continues to improve over around three months.

What areas can a thread lift treat?

A thread lift is most often used to refine and firm the lower face - particularly the cheeks, jawline and neck - as well as to lift the brow and soften lines around the nose and mouth. The same approach can also be applied to areas of mild laxity on the body, such as the arms or thighs. During your consultation we will assess your skin and recommend the most effective placement for your goals.

Am I a good candidate for a thread lift?

Thread lifts suit clients, typically from their mid-thirties onwards, who have mild to moderate sagging or early signs of facial ageing and would prefer a non-surgical solution. They are an excellent middle ground between injectables and surgery. The treatment is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for those with very advanced sagging, certain medical conditions or blood-clotting disorders. How many sessions will I need?

Most clients achieve their desired lift in a single session. The effect can then be topped up every one to two years as the threads naturally dissolve and the skin gradually relaxes again. If you wish to repeat the treatment, we generally recommend waiting at least six to twelve months between procedures so your skin can fully benefit from the collagen stimulation.

When will I see results and how long do they last?

You will notice a lifting effect immediately, with the result continuing to improve over the following three months as new collagen forms. With dissolvable PDO threads, results typically last around 1.5 to 2 years, depending on the thread type used, your skin and lifestyle factors. The threads themselves are absorbed within a few months, but the collagen-boosting benefits endure well beyond that.

Is there any downtime after a thread lift?

Downtime is minimal - most clients return to their normal activities the same day. You may experience mild swelling, redness or slight bruising for a few days, and a subtle pulling sensation when making certain expressions, all of which settle quickly. We provide full aftercare guidance to support smooth healing.

How should I care for my skin afterwards?

For the best results we recommend avoiding sleeping on your face for the first week, refraining from intense exercise for around a month and avoiding facial massage for about three weeks. It is also wise to postpone dental work for a couple of weeks and to protect the area from direct sun with a high-factor sunscreen. Our team will talk you through everything at your appointment.

Does a thread lift hurt?

Discomfort is minimal. A local anaesthetic is applied to the treatment area beforehand to keep you comfortable throughout, so most clients feel only light pressure or a mild tugging sensation as the threads are placed. Any tenderness afterwards is usually brief and easily managed.

Can the threads be removed if I change my mind?
