Salmon DNA, also known as PDRN or polynucleotide therapy, is a minimally invasive injectable treatment that delivers purified DNA fragments directly into the skin. I deeply regret having treatment here. After excellent HIFU results on my face with a different provider, I booked for my upper arms, attracted by the low price. The session in September was very uncomfortable and I wasn't offered any numbing cream. Since then I've had persistent pain and weakness in my forearms that has affected my daily life - simple tasks like driving a short distance, hoovering or ironing are exhausting. From my own research, nerve irritation seems a likely cause. I was contacted by two members of staff and offered a further treatment to help. I had an appointment booked well in advance but when I arrived after an 80-mile round trip, the premises was shut and no one was there for nearly half an hour. I've since been offered a credit note, but given the circumstances I feel a refund and reimbursement for travel expenses is entirely reasonable. Neither has been forthcoming. I am still dealing with these distressing side effects.

For anyone thinking of booking, here is my honest account. The booking process via WhatsApp was quick and simple. However, the premises were noticeably run-down compared to the previous clinic location. There was no answer on the intercom when I arrived. The practitioner arrived just before opening time without acknowledging she was late, despite my appointment requesting 15 minutes early check-in. The treatment room was cramped. During the initial consultation the practitioner was texting on her phone, which I found very unprofessional. I felt pressured into paying an additional £30 for a booster and the whole consultation felt rushed with no eye contact or genuine welcome. No post-treatment advice was given, unlike my previous visits to Vivo. For a micro-needling session at £129 I expected a far higher standard of service. A real disappointment compared to previous experiences.

A very poor experience. I booked and paid for a HIFU facial treatment that lasted only 20 minutes. Within a few hours I developed a severe migraine that lasted three days - far beyond the mild headache sometimes mentioned as a possible side effect. How does Salmon DNA (PDRN) work?

A series of fine microinjections delivers salmon-derived polynucleotides into the dermis, the living layer beneath the skin's surface. How many sessions will I need?

For best results we usually recommend a short initial course of three to five sessions, spaced around two to three weeks apart. This allows the regenerative effect to build steadily. Your treatment plan is tailored to your skin and goals during your consultation.

When will I see results and how long do they last?

Early improvements in glow and hydration are often noticeable within seven to fourteen days, with the deeper benefits to firmness and texture developing over the following weeks as new collagen forms. Once your course is complete the results are long-lasting, and most clients maintain them with a top-up session every six to twelve months to keep the skin looking its best.

Is there any downtime?

There is very little downtime. Some redness, mild swelling, tenderness or small bumps at the injection points are normal and usually settle within a day or two. Occasional minor bruising can take a little longer to fade. Most clients return to their normal routine straight away, though we advise avoiding make-up for 24 hours and strenuous exercise for 48 hours.

Does Salmon DNA hurt?

Discomfort is minimal. A numbing cream is applied beforehand to keep you comfortable, and most clients describe the microinjections as a series of small, quick pinches. The treatment is gentle and typically takes only 30 to 45 minutes.

How is PDRN different from skin boosters or fillers?

Dermal fillers add volume and reshape the face, while traditional hyaluronic-acid skin boosters mainly hydrate. Salmon DNA goes a step further by actively repairing and regenerating the skin at a cellular level, stimulating your own collagen and elastin. This makes its effects deeper and longer-lasting, and particularly suited to thinner, more delicate areas such as under the eyes.

What aftercare should I follow?

To get the most from your treatment we recommend avoiding make-up for the first 24 hours, applying a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and staying out of direct sun, and skipping saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzis and intense exercise for around 48 hours. Drinking plenty of water and avoiding alcohol and caffeine for the first day also helps your skin recover and respond beautifully.
