What Is Chemical Peeling?

A chemical peel is a controlled skin-resurfacing treatment in which a specially formulated solution is applied to the face, neck or hands to gently dissolve and remove the outermost layers of dead, damaged skin. As these tired surface cells are shed, fresher skin is revealed and the body's natural renewal process is stimulated - improving tone, texture and clarity over the days that follow.

Peels are available in different strengths to suit different goals. A light peel uses mild alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids to brighten and refresh with little to no downtime, while a medium-depth peel uses trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or a blend of acids to reach deeper layers and address more stubborn concerns such as pigmentation and acne scarring. I deeply regret having treatment here. After excellent HIFU results on my face with a different provider, I booked for my upper arms, attracted by the low price. The session in September was very uncomfortable and I wasn't offered any numbing cream. Since then I've had persistent pain and weakness in my forearms that has affected my daily life - simple tasks like driving a short distance, hoovering or ironing are exhausting. From my own research, nerve irritation seems a likely cause. I was contacted by two members of staff and offered a further treatment to help. I had an appointment booked well in advance but when I arrived after an 80-mile round trip, the premises was shut and no one was there for nearly half an hour. I've since been offered a credit note, but given the circumstances I feel a refund and reimbursement for travel expenses is entirely reasonable. Neither has been forthcoming. I am still dealing with these distressing side effects.

For anyone thinking of booking, here is my honest account. The booking process via WhatsApp was quick and simple. However, the premises were noticeably run-down compared to the previous clinic location. There was no answer on the intercom when I arrived. The practitioner arrived just before opening time without acknowledging she was late, despite my appointment requesting 15 minutes early check-in. The treatment room was cramped. During the initial consultation the practitioner was texting on her phone, which I found very unprofessional. I felt pressured into paying an additional £30 for a booster and the whole consultation felt rushed with no eye contact or genuine welcome. No post-treatment advice was given, unlike my previous visits to Vivo. For a micro-needling session at £129 I expected a far higher standard of service. A real disappointment compared to previous experiences.
